Each year, World Water Day is observed on March 22, and it provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of water conservation and management and to focus attention on the challenges and opportunities facing the global water community. In our industry, it’s an opportunity for us to look at the ways where we can maintain and improve water quality.
Maintaining water quality is an essential task in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Without it, there is an increased risk of waterborne diseases (like legionella). Legionella is a type of bacteria that can cause a severe form of pneumonia known as Legionnaires' disease. It is found naturally in freshwater environments, but it can also thrive in man-made water systems such as cooling towers, water heaters, hot tubs, and decorative fountains. Preventing legionella growth and transmission requires proper maintenance and disinfection of water systems. Here are four key steps to maintain water quality.
Viega’s ProPress and PureFlow systems are designed for potable water applications. The ProPress Automatic Recirculation Balancing Valve keeps hot water recirculation systems balanced by adjusting flow with changes in temperature. The valve has a 1” BSP Connection end and can be used with Viega ProPress or Viega PureFlow for easy integration with copper or PEX. When used with other elements of a good system, like Viega double drop elbow fittings to reduce stagnation and eliminate dead legs, the Automatic Recirculation Balancing Valve improves circulation and reduces the likelihood of legionella contamination.
