Gambling on Viega: How Ainsworth Inc. Used Viega for a Casino Renovation Project

The gambling business is not your typical 9-to-5. Casinos are set up to operate 24 hours a day, 7
days a week, with slot machines jangling, dealers calling out for final bets on the roulette tables,
and poker games rolling around the clock. This can make it difficult when repairs and updates
are inevitably needed in such a space. When Hollywood Casino in Grantville, PA was undergoing
renovations, there was no time to waste. So, they called in Ainsworth Inc. from Mechanicsburg,
PA to install chilled water lines for 26 units using 50 of Viega’s MegaPress® 4" ball valves.

Ainsworth Inc. has a strong reputation in the area for being a quality shop that uses the best
products and provides reliable work. They offer “high-quality technical trades services,
including HVAC, design-build, electrical, energy management, innovative solutions, and building
automation for institutional, commercial, residential, healthcare, and industrial clients across
North America.” As an integrated multi-trade company, they provide end-to-end services and
solutions for all the asset maintenance and refurbishment requirements of their customers.

Russ Holtzman, Mechanical HVACR & Plumbing Foreman at Ainsworth Inc., has been using
Viega products for more than 20 years and reported that they were able to complete the work
for the casino in just four weeks. “Using Viega saved me a lot of money on labor costs as well as
time on the floor,” he said, “If we’d had to secure hot work permits, this project would have
likely taken twice as long."

Working in a casino, however, comes with a unique set of challenges. Russ noted, “Casinos
don’t like having any machines down or areas of their casino floors closed off for even an hour.
We had to do most of our work between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. so we could minimize the amount of
time that the casino floor was impacted.” The team coordinated with the state to remove
certain slot machines so they could access the systems we needed. This process requires up to
seven days' notice to get the machines moved. Russ added, “Everyone also had to get their
gaming license [a requirement of the state gaming board] and pass background and security
checks to be on the casino floor.”

“There were so many moving parts for this job,” said Russ. “Having an attentive partner like
Viega really helped us stay on time and on schedule. Not to mention, we’ve just really been
impressed with the quality of the valves. We wouldn’t have used anything else.”
