Have you avoided planning tough repairs in your mill?

Did you know that the average pulp and paper mill in the U.S. was built in 1937? While you might read about new automotive plants or semiconductor factories being built today, it’s not the same for the pulp and paper industry. Existing and aging mills are not only in need of repairs, they are faced with overhauls to catch up to energy efficiency, emission standards, and converting lines into profitable products. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel – big investments lead to better profitability, decreased emissions, and safer conditions per ton of paper out the door.

Viega Industrial Piping Systems are available up to 4 inches and approved for common mill applications, including a variety of waters (mill, chilled, white water), caustics, acids, instrument air, and low-pressure steam. They are also approved for more than 2,500 nonstandard applications, making Viega an excellent choice for pulp and paper mills.

Why Viega?

  • With Viega, save up to 90% on installation time, increase uptime, and ultimately, product out the door.
  • No welding means no hot work and no need for a fire watch. That means a safer process without the need for supervision and no mess, fumes, or need for additional equipment.
  • Viega products can be pressed wet or dry, which is a significant time savings over traditional methods. There is no need to drain the full system, and pressure tests can be performed immediately.
  • Don’t let “how it’s been done in the past” leave you behind the competition. Skilled labor is harder to find than ever. Using Viega press technology gives mills the ability to allocate skilled welders where they need to be.

Common Applications

  • Caustics and Acids
  • Steam
  • Condensate
  • Mill Water
  • Potable Water
  • Process Water
  • Instrument Air
  • Vacuum
  • Lubrication Oil

Leaking 4” white water line pressed under flow conditions and contained immediately. Saved more than $9k vs waiting for the next outage to weld.

Is this affecting your profitability?

In an industrial setting, time is money, and mills need to maximize scheduled downtime for any of their machines. Downtime costs can run $30,000-$50,000 per machine per hour. Viega’s press technology can be pressed under flow conditions, allowing you to tackle the job immediately instead of waiting for a shutdown. Being able to contain a leak quickly without having to shut down the whole system saves thousands of dollars of water and drainage use.

Mills need to use products that can handle corrosive environments. Viega’s product offerings are corrosion-resistant and give you flexibility in managing your mill. They can tie into existing lines easily, and you don’t need to fully purge a system to install.
