How to Make a Press-in Branch Connection

Written by Viega | Jul 12, 2022 5:34:12 PM

Welding a branch connection onto an already installed header pipe is a long and difficult job. It requires near-complete access to the pipe, a high level of welding skill and all the additional safety precautions that hot work mandates.

Luckily, there is a better way. Using a Viega MegaPress Press-in Branch Connector is up to 60 percent faster, safer and doesn’t require welding. It also can be done using the same standard press tool used for Viega ProPress and MegaPress fittings, with the addition of the Press-in Branch Connector Tool Kit.

The tool kit includes:

  • Press-in swage tool
  • Drill Guide
  • Drill Shaft and Drill Bit/Pilot Bit
  • Positioning aids
  • Marking Pen
  • Instructions

The Viega MegaPress Press-in Branch Connector is for schedule 10 and schedule 40 carbon steel pipe.

It’s available to connect pipe with diameters from:

1½", 2", 2½”, 3", 4", 6" and comes with an EPDM or FKM sealing element.

The Branch Connector creates a ¾" NPT threaded connection in accordance with ASME B1.20.1 and is rated at 200 psi. It’s particularly suitable where space is at a premium, such as in pipe manifold installation for sensors, thermometers or drains.

The entire installation can take less than two minutes:

  1. Attach the drill guide centrally
  2. Drill a hole using a standard drill and industrial vacuum system
  3. Clean the site
  4. Position the Press-In Branch Connector and press it into place
