Versatility is one of the contractor’s best friends.

Using a product with multiple applications simplifies work, from design to installation. It can mean a smaller inventory, less paperwork and fewer trips to the distributorship for materials.

At Viega, we take a lot of pride in the versatility of our pressing systems. We design our products to meet the greatest number of applications and we pursue the toughest and most stringent industry performance standards for approvals and certifications in order to make pressing available for our customers in as many situations as possible. It’s why Viega products can be found anywhere from fire sprinkler systems and observatories to hospitals and factories.

Of course, most contractors don’t get the opportunity to use Viega press systems for all the applications for which they’re approved, but it’s important to be aware of them in case the opportunity arises.

Take the MegaPress systems for carbon and stainless steel, for example.

MegaPress and carbon steel

MegaPress carbon steel is for use with Schedule 5 to Schedule 40 pipe and has more than 200 configurations, from ½" to 4". It’s approved for more applications than any other carbon steel press fitting system:

Water/liquids
  • Chilled water (≤50% ethylene/propylene glycol)
  • Hydronic heating water (≤50% ethylene/propylene glycol)
  • Fire sprinkler (NFPA 13, 13D, 13R)
  • Steam (low-pressure)
Fuels/Oils/Lubricants
  • Ethanol
  • Lube oil
  • Heating fuel oil
  • Diesel fuel
  • Biodiesel
  • Kerosene
Gases
  • Compressed air
  • Nitrogen
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Argon
  • Oxygen
  • Hydrogen
  • Acetylene (test pressure 350 psi)
  • Vacuum (minimum absolute pressure, maximum differential pressure)
MegaPress and stainless steel

MegaPress stainless is for use with 304 and 316 IPS stainless steel pipe.

Its applications include:

Water/liquids
  • Chilled water (≤50% ethylene/propylene glycol)
  • Hydronic heating water (≤50% ethylene/propylene glycol)
  • Hot and cold potable water
  • Rainwater/graywater
  • Treated water
  • Reverse osmosis water (<1 MΩ)
  • Paraffin wax
  • Methyl ethyl ketone
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Steam (low-pressure, residential)
  • Nitric acid (concentration ≤10%)
  • Phosphoric acid (concentration ≤25%)
  • Fire sprinkler (NFPA 13, 13D, 13R)
Fuels/Oils/Lubricants
  • Ethanol
  • Lube oil
  • Heating fuel oil
  • Diesel fuel
  • Biodiesel
  • Kerosene
  • Mineral oil
Gases
  • Compressed air (oil concentration ≤25 mg/m)
  • Compressed air (oil concentration >25 mg/m)
  • Nitrogen
  • Carbon dioxide (dry)
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Argon
  • Ammonia (anhydrous)
  • Oxygen (non-medical)
  • Hydrogen
  • Acetylene (test pressure 350 psi)
  • Vacuum (minimum absolute pressure, maximum differential pressure)
Special media
  • Methanol
  • Latex paint
  • Urea solution (concentration ≤40%)
  • Caustic soda (concentration ≤50%)
  • Acetone

All of this versatility is possible because Viega offers MegaPress fittings with three different sealing elements: EPDM, FKM and HNBR. The elements’ individual properties allow for the wide range of applications. Of course, there are system operating conditions and restrictions on many of the applications.
