Evan Berns was in the right place at the right time when he began his career in the plumbing trade. He was working as a landscaper when he met Steve Lee at The Plumbing Pros. Lee, who started The Plumbing Pros in 2015, wanted someone to take over most of his service calls, and he taught Evan everything he knew. “Before I knew it, he’d put me in a van. And it was sink or swim at that point,” Berns said. He’s been using Viega press fittings for four years and doesn't plan on stopping. "I get done with jobs sooner which means being home on time for dinner! And I’ve yet to see a Viega fitting leak."

What is your favorite part of your job?
I love helping people find solutions to their problems. I look back at the changes I’ve made in my community and get a sense of satisfaction from that.
What type of jobs do you do?
All residential service and repair.
What is the first word that comes to your mind when you think of/hear "Viega"?
Speed and quality.
How long have you been using Viega press fittings?
Four years! My boss bought his first press tool when he started the company in 2015.
What is your most used Viega fitting?
The 3/4 male adapter.
Advice for those considering getting into the plumbing trade?
Get a tripod and start posting your work! Act like the whole world is going to see you do the job and inspect it after. It will make you a better plumber.
Advice for the younger generation on why they should join the trade?
In a bad economy, you will always have an essential skill and be employable. And in a good economy, that skill will be in high demand! I had no idea what I wanted to do when I got out of high school. Instead of working towards a degree I wasn’t sure I would need, I got real world experience and found that I enjoyed it.
