Pressing Is a Good Fit for Fire Sprinkler Systems

Pressing has made huge inroads in plumbing as contractors realize its many advantages over traditional methods of joining pipe, but it’s been slower to catch on in fire sprinkler installation.

However, pressing offers sprinkler system installers many of the same advantages as it does plumbing contractors: speed, reliability, safety and efficiency.

Right now, roll grooving is the most popular method for joining steel sprinkler pipe. But that’s time consuming, messy and requires an expensive roll groover and threading machine on the job site.

By contrast, Viega’s ProPress and MegaPress systems offer a secure fitting that can be done faster, cleaner and without setting up a threading and roll grooving station. Plus, ProPress and MegaPress are both available in 304 and 316 alloys, depending on the specific needs and installation environments.

Viega fittings are suitable for NFPA 13, 13D and 13R fire sprinkler systems. They also are listed to UL 213 and FM class 1920. MegaPress can be installed with Schedule 10 to Schedule 40 steel pipe and was the first carbon steel press system in the industry with both UL and FM approval.

ProPress Stainless is ideal for fire protection systems in industrial applications. The only UL-listed stainless steel press fitting for fire protection, ProPress Stainless can withstand corrosive cleaners in industrial environments better than other materials.

Speed is of the essence when installing fire sprinkler systems, whether it’s new construction or a retrofit, particularly in a restrictive environment, like a hospital or apartment building. Viega press systems are great for predictable prefab assemblies, but also offer the ability to quickly compensate for onsite adjustments or when tying into existing systems.

With no flame and no roll grooving required, pressing lets contractors work faster and with minimal disruption and safety risks in occupied structures. That means faster jobs and happier clients.

Viega fittings also come with Smart Connect technology, which makes it easy to identify unpressed connections.
